The new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 starts from a reasonable--given its level of performance--$40,995, but the heart of the car, its mighty 5.0-liter V-8, can be all yours for just $11,995. That’s because Ford is now offering its Boss 302 V-8 as a standalone ‘crate engine’ through its Ford Racing division.
Following the success of the Mustang’s 5.0-liter V8 engine that became available as a crate engine last year, Ford Racing is looking into adding another stand-alone choice for its muscle car-loving fanbase. This time it is a crate engine option featuring the Boss 302’s 444-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8 engine.
