College football seasons are defined by big games, strong
comebacks and dominating performances.
And after its seventh win of the season Saturday, the No. 13
Nebraska football team can check all three off its list.
To say this season in Lincoln has been somewhat tumultuous would be
an understatement. The Huskers rose through the poles, sitting as
high as No. 8 entering the Big Ten season, only to witness the
brutality of a new conference in a 48-17 loss at Wisconsin.
But since that disastrous Oct. 1 defeat, the Huskers have turned
things around and quickly. First came the biggest come-from-behind
victory in school history against Ohio State, followed by a
well-used bye week and a dominating win over a lackluster Minnesota
squad.
Saturday’s 24-3 win over No. 9 Michigan State was not only the most
complete game the Huskers have played up to this point in 2011, but
quite possibly the biggest considering the road ahead.
With all four remaining games left on the schedule against tough
opponents and a Legends Division leading Spartan squad rolling into
town, it was now or never for the Huskers. Their Big Ten
championship title hopes were on the line, as a loss would take
them out of the race for the division crown. And while the race
will continue throughout the remaining weeks, there is no doubt
that this win is the most important and can set the tone for the
rest of the year.
