Can You Trust Your Child's Coach?
28.11.11
How often do you think hard about the adults who work with your children? The teachers and coaches who lead sports teams, church groups and other programs make our lives as parents easier, and they make our children’s lives better. They’re often parents themselves, and many of us find ourselves in coaching roles, working with other people’s children. I tend to take for granted my children’s safety when I send them off to a hockey game in a coach’s car, or to an after-school club run by a teacher — until something happens to remind me to be less sanguine.
The arrest of Jerry Sandusky, a well-known former Penn State assistant football coach, on charges of child molestation is one of those reminders. The indictment of Penn State’s athletic director and one of its senior vice presidents, who are accused of lying to a grand jury about whether they were told about an alleged incident of abuse is another, and one that reflects a different ugly truth: as Frank Bruni puts it , “Institutions do an awful job of policing themselves.” If any of our children are unlucky enough to encounter an adult whose interest in them is predatory rather than kind, their best line of defense doesn’t lie in some outside authority. It lies with us. And that’s terrifying.

“That doesn't mean it's always going to work. There are times when a battery is so dead it won't accept a jump start. But there's no formula to say when it will and won't work. You just have to try.'' Once you get a car with a dead battery started,

Tan said cars are expensive to maintain and repair, especially when something vital breaks down. Parts such as engines, transmission, fuel-injectors and catalytic converters are expensive to replace no matter who does the work.
There's no other car that does quite what that [one] does. There may be a point in my life where I want to do something entirely different, but at the moment I'm still very fond of that car. We raced it at [the] Goodwood [Revival, an annual racing
In fact, there is probably even more work to do as, with limited testing, these final races of 2011 are a last chance to test on the track ideas and components that could be used on the 2012 car. The fact that there are not so many changes to the
